High Winds, Big Waves on Lake Michigan!

2/19/16 – This was an unusually warm, very windy, springlike day in Michigan. 60F and sunshine dominated most of the afternoon. The wind gusts were powerful, some of which were very high. Numerous high wind reports reaching into the 50-60mph range were received. One gust of 70mph was reported at Ford Airport in Grand Rapids. Overall, a very warm, and windy day. I planned for this day in advance. The models showed a potent storm system with a warm surge of air, and very strong winds. I wanted to go down to Lake Michigan to shoot the waves crashing over the pier and lighthouse, as well as see what the ice situation looked like down there. After a mild winter overall, most of the Lake Michigan shoreline was free of ice, except for the ice which had been piled up by waves on the beach. Fall Colors At The Lakes

10/11/14 – This was an absolutely gorgeous day to be outdoors! Sunshine, warm temperatures, and hardly a cloud in the sky. I decided to head out to a couple of lakes to do some photography, and also some fishing. Though I didn’t catch much in the fish department, what I captured in photos was well worth the trip down there. Simply gorgeous conditions, bright and vivid Fall colors all around. I shot most of these images looking up into the trees. Something I have done before, but it never gets old. I started out at a lake I frequent for fishing and cycling. I snapped a few images of the water, including the sun shining down into the weed bed just off the dock. A few contrails made nice accents to the sky as well.
