April 30, 2010 – Oklahoma Storm Chase Summary

Video cut underneath a lowering mesocyclone. Right about this time a Tornado Warning was issued for this storm. By far, the best chase of my whole season. A High Risk day in southeastern Oklahoma. April 30, 2010. My good friend Charles Thomas and I were stationed in Hugo, OK, and decided we’d be chasing on the 30th. Great decision. We were chasing in a PT Cruiser, the right front tire was bald and the left rear was too small for the car, not to mention the other 2 tires were very worn. But that didn’t stop us. The planning started a couple of days before, checking the computer models, mesoanalysis and more. The models showed good agreement in a severe weather outbreak. I took over some of the main forecasting duties, suggesting the storms initiating to our west, intensifying over our chase zone, and then the storms would be moving into Arkansas.
