Fall Color Tour 2014

12/19/14 – This article is dedicated to my best Fall Color photos from this year’s Fall Color Tour. Autumn is one of my favorite seasons, for the changing colors, for the great Bass fishing before winter, and also for the ever changing weather conditions. We could have bright sunny days with warm temperatures, stormy days (including severe weather) or even snowy days. Autumn is a transitional time of year. My favorite things of all though, are the Fall Colors. Click Here to read all about the Fall Color process. It’s fascinating. This year’s foliage display was one to remember. It was one of the best that I have ever witnessed in my whole entire life. Only 2010 and 2008 come close. The best colors lasted for weeks! Great weather for getting out to enjoy them as well. I was able to do a lot of great things with my photography of the colors this season. So here on this last day of Fall, I present to you, Fall Color Tour … Read More…

The First Snow! 10/31/14

10/31/14 – The first snow of the season just happened to fall on Halloween this year. On October 27th, we have high temperatures in the mid 70s, but the weather pattern was soon to change, and when it did, it was drastic. The snow didn’t really stick most of the day, and in my area at least, it wasn’t coming down too terribly hard until later in the afternoon hours. Once the snow picked up in intensity, I decided to head out and get some photos and video footage of it. In this article you will see the wet road conditions, the windy and snowy conditions, and also a close up view of the potato harvesting equipment. There’s also Fall colors in various scenes. The tale of two seasons! Enjoy. … Read More…

Forest Home Cemetery Fall Colors

10/15/14 – It was a mild and beautiful Fall day in Michigan. The Fall colors were very bright and vibrant, and many of the trees were exhibiting peak color. I decided to go down to the Forest Home Cemetery to photograph the foliage scenes. This would be my first official photo shoot in a cemetery. I have taken pictures in a cemetery before, but never a full set like this. I’ve visited this cemetery in the past as well. The Forest Home Cemetery is a very old cemetery, with a lot of history. I will be going back there next year when it gets warm again to explore more of the area. This excerpt comes from the Friends Of Forest Home Cemetery website: “A stroll through this magnificent cemetery will reveal the gravesites of veterans of our nation’s wars from the War of 1812 to the present, as well as merchants, doctors, lawyers, politicians, teachers and preachers, the wealthy and the poor, all of whom played a role in determining … Read More…

Baldwin Lake Fall Colors

10/13/14 – This was a rainy day. Mild, but rainy. I decided it would be a good day to head out and shoot some Fall colors. I brought my fishing gear along as well to see if I could catch anything while I was there. What I didn’t know was, I was about to snap one of my very best Fall colors photos of all time. Foliage has always been a strong suit for me and my photography, so it’s not unusual for me to head out and find the best photo ops I can. Today was no different. As the showers moved through on and off throughout the day, I captured a few images of their results. Raindrops on the window, raindrops on the leaves, and then suddenly the sky just took on this amazing color and texture scheme. The sun began to shine through the clouds a bit too, which illuminated the sky, trees and helped enhance the reflection off of Baldwin Lake. This was truly a once … Read More…

A Fall Color Day

9/29/14 – On this day, I decided to take my bicycle down to the lake to go fishing. Along the way, I decided to get some photos of the beautiful fall colors that were really beginning to show up on the trees. My adventures took me down the Flat River Fred Meijer Trail, and through part of the cemetery. In this entry, you will see a collection of fall color photos. Most of which are Maple trees exhibiting bright oranges. It was another great day in a beautiful stretch of weather. Michigan is one of the best states in the US for viewing fall colors! Enjoy! If you want to purchase any of these, feel free to let me know by clicking here. … Read More…

Potato Harvest, Bald Faced Hornets, and Early Fall Colors

9/23/14 – It was a beautiful day weather wise, so I decided to take my bicycle out for a ride around the area. At first, I found some nice flowers in the garden. As I rode down the road, I discovered a field which had been harvested. This was a potato field. Greenville, MI has a history in the potato farming industry. Area farmers grow potatoes for companies like Ore Ida, Frito Lay, Snyder’s and others. One of the most well known farms around these parts goes by the name of Sackett Potatoes. Since this was my first time ever actually witnessing a potato harvest, I decided to document some of it. The harvester dug up the potatoes, and then they travel up a conveyor belt, and into a truck to be hauled off to their destination at the factory for processing. I actually found some of the harvested potatoes on the roadside, so I picked up up and took they home to eat. They were delicious! You’ll see a … Read More…

Fall Colors at Harold Baurie Roadside Park

It was a beautiful day in Michigan today with temperatures in the low 60s, bright sunshine, and just a light breeze. I decided to go out and photograph some of the past peak fall colors. I went down to the Harold Baurie Roadside Park to see what I could find. A lot of times those smaller parks can have some big photography rewards. I was was definitely pleased with the setup. Nice little park. Picnic tables, toilets, and a couple of barbecues. Oaks and Maples dominated the area, with a couple of Aspens mixing in here and there. There were still quite a few leaves on some of the trees, while others were almost, or completely bare. We haven’t had an ideal year with the drought and heat, then it’s been cold and windy a lot this fall when the colors were really peaking, so there wasn’t much of a chance to get out to get any good shots. Today though I experienced some very nice “past peak” fall colors. … Read More…
