Showers and Thunderstorms (PHOTOS + VIDEO)

Whew, it took hours to complete this blog, all the footage editing, uploading, linking, etc. Well worth it though! The image featured here is one of the absolutely most spectacular displays of Crepuscular Rays I have ever witnessed in my whole entire life. I started my day off well, planning to meet for lunch at Applebee’s with my good friend Cort Scholten. Cort’s a fellow weather nut, who studied Meteorology at CMU (Central Michigan University). He and I started chatting online in Bill’s Blog a few years ago, which is run by WOOD TV Chief Meteorologist Bill Steffen. Over the years, Cort and I have become quite good friends, like brothers really. He’s nowcasted for me on chases before as well. Of course, the day we plan lunch is the day that cumulus clouds start developing everywhere, fitting really when you think about it. Before I left the apartment I grabbed my camera, noticing the cumulus clouds trying to get their act together. Below are a few images I snapped … Read More…

Surprise Lake Breeze T-Shower (VIDEO + PHOTOS)

Pictured here is a screenshot from one of my videos of the lightning today. Since I was zooming in at the time of the strike, and these were so close together, I decided to take two screenshots, and merge them together into one image. Here is the result. First of all today I must note there was a 0% chance of thunderstorms, and less than 5% chance of rain showers. Of all the days we had chances for thunderstorms to form on a lake breeze boundary, it would figure that a couple of cells fire off on a 0% day. Michigan is continuing to try and stand out from the crowd and be different this year. Earlier today I noticed a few cumulus clouds forming, I knew they would form, I just didn’t expect them to do much, so I didn’t monitor them. Here are a couple of images of said cumulus. They really didn’t look all that impressive honestly. If we had better conditions maybe. Even with the highs … Read More…

Sun Rays and Cumulus Clouds (PHOTOS)

Over the course of past few months we have been enjoying mostly above average temperatures here in lower Michigan. The month of March 2012 has been no exception. In fact, not only are we enjoying above average temperatures, we are breaking all time records, and in some cases, simply destroying old records with ease. This is the earliest it’s ever been this warm since accurate records have been kept, which date back to the 1800s. It feels like May or June out there, hard to believe we are still in March. In fact, astronomically speaking, Spring only just began today (March 20, 2012) so when you think about it, the days we have had 60s, 70s, and 80s was during WINTER officially. With the warm air, enough moisture, and some instability, cumulus clouds can form, and they did on March 19, 2012. They weren’t real spectacular, but I dusted off the camera and snapped a few images of them. Here are the results, from Greenville, MI. Enjoy. … Read More…

Jet Streams on Jupiter (VIDEO)

This image is from NASA’s Cassini spacecraft showing the general path one of Jupiter’s jet streams. The line of V-shaped chevrons travels west to east just above Jupiter’s Great Red Spot. The majority of Jupiter is shown here in one single, flat map made on December 11 and 12, 2000, when NASA’s Cassini spacecraft flew past Jupiter, and was just released March 13, 2012. CREDIT: NASA/JPL/Space Science Institute We all knew that Earth had Jet Streams, but so does Jupiter. I found a really cool and very detailed article regarding this discovery. I included an excerpt just under the video. Via LiveScience – A new video of Jupiter captures dynamic changes in the planet’s atmosphere caused by an invisible wave rippling one of the gas giant’s fast-moving jet streams. Astronomers used the new movies, which were created using images taken by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft, to study these atmospheric interactions on Jupiter and how they compare to similar jet stream motion in Earth’s atmosphere. “This is the first time anyone has … Read More…

StumbleUpon Adventures (PHOTOS)

So I am on the internet tonight, sharing some tweets on My Twitter Page, updating some information on My YouTube Channel, sharing some neat news stories and such on My Facebook Page, and telling people about the money they could be saving with Mike Curtis of Farm Bureau Insurance – Proud Sponsor of Charlesimages-Stormedia – when it dawned on me. In all my years on the internet, I had never signed up to StumbleUpon. So I figured I’d give it a shot. I began first by performing a StumbleUpon test using my share buttons at the top of this page. Under “Share” I found StumbleUpon, and the test worked! Feel free to “stumble” www.charlesimages-stormedia.com if you’d like. Through my StumbleUpon adventures tonight I created a really cool image through a silk writer of sorts, found out some new recipes for baking and cooking (bet I did not strike you as a baker, I’m actually pretty good at it) and most notably so far, some awesome images of our very own … Read More…
